You didn't ask, but a few friends DID ask. So, I'm sharing with everyone my (highly personal and curated) short list of go-to podcasts. Hopefully, this list leaves out the usual top-10 you read about (The Ezra Klein Show, Smartless, My Favorite Murder and so forth) and all but two have very little (or nothing) to do with real estate!
I can't get enough of this show, with its charming, brainiac Brit hosts. And I have so many favorite episodes -- the series on Custer and Crazy Horse, the French Revolution series, the series on the lead up to WWI (The Road to the Great War and the Murder of Franz Ferdinand), the Lord Byron series, the Titanic series, the Martin Luther series and -- top of my list -- The Fall of the Aztecs. You can't really go wrong IMHO.
Superlative, mesmerizing and it'll make you wish your 8-hour car ride was 12 hours instead. One reviewer remarked, "It's the only podcast that unites my Gen Z brother and 93-year-old grandmother in admiration." Start with the episode that my oldest son recommended when he first introduced me to Mr. Carlin: The Celtic Holocaust.
All about archetypes, dreams, myths and psychology. Every week the three Jungian-analyst hosts analyze a listener's dream, after kicking around some profound and fun ideas for an hour.
A true crime podcast, but the definition of crime is broad. Presented artfully and much of the episodes are about historical crimes or unsolved mysteries. Fascinating. You can start at the beginning.
The History of Rock and Roll in 500 Songs
Watch out. This one is addictive. You'll quickly fall under the spell of Andrew Hickey -- an erudite British host with a charming lisp and vast knowledge. It starts back in the 1940s and works its way forward. A real musical education, and he plays samples of all the music (plus everything is available on a Spotify channel to listen to separately). My partner and I can't stop listening. There are 500 songs! (And many of the songs involve more than one episode.) Nonetheless, I'm trying to pace myself so I don't get to the end too soon.)
For film nerds, an historical look at Hollywood and especially sexism and exploitation of women and other oppressed / disadvantaged folks. Lots of great series and standalones. I especially enjoyed Eps 106-114 "Jane and Jean" about Jane Fonda and Jean Seberg, Eps 93-105 "Dead Blondes," Eps 71-93 "The Blacklist," and "MGM stories" which starts at Ep 56.
Shameless, I am. This is my podcast and it's all about real estate but not about the nitty gritty of how to and statistics and such. You can also catch it on YouTube.
This is geared toward Realtors, but it's eye opening and informative for the layperson as well. Plus, I just enjoy listening to host Ben Brady's Australian accent.
**As for the photo of Kim Novak taken from Vertigo, there IS a You Must Remember This episode about Novak.
Stay up to date on the latest real estate trends.
Slightly unconventional ideas!
