Teatime: Meet Guy Gal

This week’s Kindred TeaTime interview is with Guy Gal – mentor to many, soulful seeker, curator of bonsai, anime aficianado and CEO of Side, the powerhouse tech company that helps power Kindred SF Homes.

Name a book you loved as a kid. Is there a line or character you remember?

My favorite is a book that you gave me! The Big Orange Splot  (by Daniel Pinkwater). I really resonate with the message, which is that you can live together in a neighborhood and live harmoniously with each other, but you don’t have to all be the same. Everyone can be different and everyone’s home can be a manifestation of their particular dream.

What did you last read? Thumbs up or down?

I read a book called King Warrior Magician Lover (Robert Moore and Douglas Gillette). It’s a book about Carl Jung and the inherent archetypes in human beings. It was an interesting read for the first 25% of the book.  The rest of the book consisted of case studies and it was really boring so I stopped reading (laughs)! But I really enjoyed the first quarter of it and I would recommend that to anyone.

In your next life you can be a lion, a tiger or a bear. Which do you choose and why?

A bear. For sure. I could totally go for a six-month nap right now. It would be awesome to crawl into an ice cave and go to sleep for the winter. I wouldn’t mind a lifetime of doing that, and I would really enjoy eating fresh-caught salmon.

What is something you learned from a parent that turned out to be wise?

Nothing is coming to mind…

There’s a new interior paint color based on you and your life. What’s its name and why?

I feel like you should have sent me all of these questions ahead of time (laughs)! It would probably be something teal but I’m trying to think of a clever way to phrase that particular  feeling. Bohemian. Energetic. Vibrant. 

What in the world gives you hope?

Waking up every morning! Having one more day and another opportunity to do things differently, to do things better. That’s awesome.

It’s teatime. What’s your order?

It’s definitely something out of an anime movie. Fantastical anime food. It’s hard to say exactly what it is and there’s not a specific cuisine per se, but it all looks so delicious and appetizing.  Interesting buns and steaming bowls filled with noodles and rice and lots of veggies. It’s all expressed through animation.
