Don’t get me started talking about the joys of sobriety. I’ll bore you to death with my evangelical zeal (and I’m 3 years into my sober journey, so go figure).
Yet if you’re sober curious, or already sober, or if you NEVER intend to become sober, I want to let you in on a best kept secret in San Francisco: Ocean Beach Café, where the alcohol free can truly feel free and not freaky. And where those who are sober curious or never to be sober can enjoy some delicious non-alcoholic libations.
Their colorful coolers are stocked with a huge variety of fine NA beers, wines and spirits. They serve breakfast, lunch and all-day snacks and desserts (macadamia-peanut-butterfrosted-flakes cookies anybody?). Owner Joshua James and his friendly staff of “nixologists” are happy to whip up a delightful NA cocktail for you.
I love their #SOBAR tasting experiences – held (by reservation) at 3, 4 and 5 pm on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. You can sample all sorts of new NA products and enjoy spirited ambience and music in the process.
It’s worth the drive west and you can always add a Land’s End walk to your itinerary. Check it out, or at least check out their Instagram account! Ocean Beach Café is one more reason to love San Francisco and, in particular, the outer Richmond District.
