Best of SF: Favorite 3 Sushi Restaurants in San Francisco

  1. Kabuto. Our favorite sushi restaurant in San Francisco is Kabuto on Geary Boulevard in the central Richmond district. Named for the shogun helmet first used by Japanese samurai, the restaurant’s storefront is understated and simple. You might not even notice it if you were walking by, but it’s been around forever and for good reason. They have arguably the best sushi in SF. You’ll want to try some of their house specialties like Crepe Albacore Sushi, Hotapple or curry-flavored Crunchy. Or try their pre fixe Omakase menu. You can’t go wrong!
  2. Omakase. In SOMA, there’s Omakase, which means “chef’s choice” in Japanese. They offer an extraordinary dining experience with inventive dishes, fish and sake sourced directly from Japan. Chef Jackson Yu is devoted to his craft. He actually traveled to the mountainous regions of Japan to select the pottery and dinnerware for the restaurant. The cuisine is in the Edomae style, with a spotlight on the pure, fresh taste of fish.
  3. Ken. We highly recommend Ken. Chef Ken opened his restaurant at the start of the pandemic, and quickly pivoted to offering elegant to-go sushi. This sushi is so highly coveted, you must order well in advance via the website. Or you can make a reservation (also in advance) for the 6 seats at the counter.
